Description
A pressure transducer is an instrument that converts applied pressure into a proportional electrical signal for display, control, or data logging. Its working principle generally involves a sensing element, most commonly a diaphragm fitted with strain gauges, that deflects slightly under pressure. This deflection changes electrical resistance, which is processed into a standard output signal such as 4–20mA or 0–10V.
There are several types of pressure transducers, including strain gauge, piezoresistive, and capacitive designs, each suited to different pressure ranges and media compatibility requirements. Strain gauge types remain widely used in industrial process applications due to their stability and long-term durability.
Engineers selecting a sensor for a specific process should also weigh accuracy, overpressure protection, and media compatibility. For specifications and selection details, see ADI Controls' pressure transducer range, which covers multiple pressure ranges for industrial use.
