Description
Have you noticed the darkness under your eyes looks worse in overhead light and better when you tilt your head back?
That observation is more useful than it seems. If the darkness changes with the angle of light, a hollow is likely casting a shadow, and no cream applied to the surface will fill a dip in volume. If it stays constant regardless of lighting, pigmentation in the skin itself is more likely to be the main factor. And if the area lightens when the skin is gently stretched, the colour is probably coming from blood vessels visible through thin under-eye skin. These are three different problems that look alike in a photograph.
Treatment may be considered if the under-eye area appears darker, tired or hollow and has not responded to skincare. Depending on what the assessment identifies, under-eye peels and topical treatment may be considered for pigmentation, and carefully assessed dermal filler where hollowness contributes. It may not be appropriate with active infection or irritation in the area, or with certain medical conditions or medications.
Our dermatologists examine the under-eye area properly rather than relying on a home check, and review your skin type, allergies, eye-rubbing, sun exposure, sleep patterns, relevant medical history and previous treatments. A personalised treatment plan follows from that individual assessment.
