Description
Been told both could work for your scars and unsure which one is actually being recommended, or why?
They work on the same principle — creating controlled micro-injuries so the skin repairs and builds new collagen in the depressions left by acne — but they differ in depth and intensity. Microneedling uses fine needles to create those channels mechanically, generally with less downtime and often over more sessions. Fractional CO2 laser uses heat in a grid pattern, reaches deeper, and typically needs fewer sessions but more recovery time after each. Deeper, sharply-edged scars often call for the laser; milder texture and shallower scarring may respond adequately to microneedling. In some cases they are combined across a plan.
Either may be considered if you have boxcar or rolling acne scars, uneven texture or enlarged pores. Neither is usually appropriate with active acne, a recent tan, keloid-prone skin, or while on certain medications, and Indian skin tones need carefully chosen settings to reduce the risk of pigmentation afterwards.
Which suits you is not decided by preference alone. Our dermatologists assess your scar type and depth, skin type and sensitivity, how your skin has healed previously, sun exposure and current medications, and discuss a personalised treatment plan based on that individual assessment — including how much downtime each option would involve for you.
Benefits of Acne Scar Treatment:
May help soften the appearance of scar edges
May improve overall evenness of skin texture
May help refine the appearance of enlarged pores
Approach matched to your scar type rather than a single default
Progress reviewed across sessions so the plan can be adjusted
Improvement builds gradually over months, more than one session is usually needed, and results vary from person to person. Treatment costs vary depending on the approach advised, the area treated and the number of sessions recommended.
We see patients from Panaji, Ribandar, Dona Paula and Porvorim at our clinic opposite Mall de Goa.
