Location
Shimla is located in the Himalayan foothills, northeast of Chandigarh, at an elevation of about 7,100 feet (2,200 meters).
History
The British built Shimla after the Gurkha War of 1814–16 to rest their troops. It was the summer capital of India from 1865 to 1939, and the capital of East Punjab from 1947 to 1953.
Attractions
Shimla is known for its natural beauty, architectural buildings, and wooden crafts. Attractions include the Viceregal Lodge, Christ Church, Mall Road, The Ridge, and Annadale. The Kalka-Shimla railway line, which was built in 1906, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Climate
Shimla has a temperate climate. From April to October, you can wear cotton clothes with light woolens. In winter, from November to March, you'll need heavy woolens and jackets. In spring and autumn, thin sweaters and hoodies are recommended.
