Flow Meter Types, Working Principles and Industrial Applications

The flow meter is used to measure how fast fluids travel through pipes and process lines. The type of flow meter that should be used is determined by various factors such as the kind of fluid, flow rate, size of pipe, pressure, and temperature among others. Different technologies may be applied in determining either the volumetric or mass flow rate based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, ultrasonics, turbines, vortices, variable area, and differential pressure. Applications for flow meters include water and wastewater treatment, chemical industry, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages among many others.
